Interesting Quotes:

"In the last 4-5 years, parvovirus in the US has been the biggest problem for kennels, even in vaccinated dogs."
(Foster-Smith Pet
Catalog, Vol. 03-57)

***

"She was a seven-month-old, gorgeous, taupe-colored devil in dogs clothing. But I loved her."
(Paul Loeb)

***

"The diet of our companion animals is deplorable. So many dogs and cats eat out of bags full of poor ingredients, rancid fats and powerful preservatives."
(Don Hamilton, DVM
from Homeopathic Care for Cats and Dogs)

***

Command; he thee obeys most readily.
Strike him; he whines and falls down at thy feet.
Call him; he leaves his game and comes to thee
With wagging tail,
offering his service meek.

If so thou wilt, a collar he will wear;
And when thou wish to take it off again,
Unto thy feet he crouchest down most fair,
As if thy will were all his good and gain.
(J. Molle)

***

"The more confidence you have in your dog, the more he will believe in you."
(From: Smarter Than You Think, by Paul Loeb)

***

"The housebound dog leads a stressed existence. It cannot express its natural behaviors: stalking, chasing, exploring, investigating."
(From: The Dog's Mind, by Bruce Fogle)

PUPPIES!!! 2002: As They Grow

By popular demand, we will try to post photos of Czara and Rudi's little darlings as they grow, or until they go off to their new homes at eight to nine weeks old.

Puppies have flown
 to all points:
NORTH - SOUTH - EAST - and WEST
to their new homes and new adventures.
Each takes with them a little piece of my heart

Lara, 10 Weeks old: a puppy's life on the ranch

"Lara" named after the tender and beautiful heroine
of the book, Dr. Zhivago, by Boris Pasternak

Sisters

Kissy-face with stock dogs

Curious foals

Eating 'horse apples'
(Hey, it's what dogs do - and a natural source of Vitamin K)

Minding the milk cows

Taking it all in

Back at the house, waiting for dinner

"Lara" says, 'I'll grow into my feet someday'

8-1/2 Weeks old:

Puppies are preparing to go to new homes.  Health certificates are gotten, traveling crates are purchased, travel reservations and plans are made.  Soon we'll be saying 'Good bye.'  Meanwhile...

"Tonia"

John had a tough decision: Shall I choose the brother or the sister?

We don't like rainy days when we might have to stay in the kennel
(Fortunately it only rains once or twice during the whole summer, so we rarely ever have to stay in)

"Strelnikov's" only fault: He's too cute

Way too cute!

Puppies 8 Weeks Old:

Sisters, "Dharria" & "Tone"

"Lara"

Look at the 'eyebrows' on "Zhivago-Zak"

"Lara" with grass in her mouth

"Tonia" says, 'I'm a watch-puppy'

Puppies Seven Weeks Old:

It is I, "Strelnikov"

Here's looking at you: "Strelnikov," "Zhivago-Zak" and "Tone"

Puppies 6-1/2 Weeks Old:

"Lara" and friend Cheyenne

Puppies Six Weeks Old:

Tail flyin', ears flyin', high-flyin' "Dharria"

No, this cat is not dead; he's just very, very tolerant
("Dharria," it's not nice to pull Kitty's tail)

Puppies Five Weeks Old:

"Strelnilov"

"Lara" eating her raw-chicken dinner

"Vodka"

The sweet face of "Yurii"

Puppies Four Weeks Old:

"Vodka" four weeks old

"Strelnikov" sitting pretty

Puppies 3-1/2 Weeks Old:

"Dharria" 3-1/2 weeks old

"Czara" and her puppies, 3-1/2 weeks old
on their first 'field trip' to the back yard

Czara and Rudi's puppies at 3-1/2 weeks old:  They are barking.  They are growling.  They are running (well - trotting).  They are playing (kind of).  They are fighting over a raw chicken bone or two.  And of course, they are sleeping -- a lot --

"Yurii" sooooo sleepy . . . .

Like all babies, they certainly have a lot of growing to do.

.....asleep

How much wood would a wood chuck .....

"Tonia," 'Where's my mommy?'

Three-week-old puppies on the prowl

Puppies 2-1/2 Weeks Old:

What a difference one week makes in the life of a very young puppy.

Little "Lara" at 2-1/2 weeks old

Hey, wait a minute. How did that kitten get in here
with all these 2+ week old puppies?

Puppies are so sweet, innocent, endearing

Puppies 1-1/2 to Two Weeks Old:

Eight little puppies

"Czara" and her 1-1/2 week-old puppies

Puppies Two Days Old:

Little "Dharria," photogenic even at two days old

"Lara"
